Wipa Tanmanatragul " Phuket Person of the Year Award a triumph for charity " Wipa has been a member since 1994 till Now. As a young girl, WIPA was able to get a scholarship, from an open scholarship foundation formed after the Vietnam war (AFS), and studied at a High School in the USA. She managed to get another scholarship from the Rotary Club to do nursing training in Australia for 4 years. She came back to Thailand and married 27 years ago, and had a daughter. Once her daughter was educated, she decided to join the PIWC, and help the needy children receive their education in a similar manner. Email : president@phuketiwc.com |

Carole Dux An Australian who has lived abroad for 23 years, Carole and her husband retired to Phuket three and a half years ago from England, she has been involved with the PIWC for the last three years. Having five children she appreciates the importance of education and enjoys seeing the scholarship students flourish. Hobbies include playing golf, looking after her six dogs and drinking the occasional glass of wine with friends. In her spare time she also helps organize the monthly lunch. Jureewan Wongprom Smulders Jureewan returned to Thailand in 2008 with her Dutch husband after spending the last 25 years in Holland. Another member introduced her to the club and as she was familiar with expat life, found it easy to make friends via the club. She feels she can act as a liaison between the members and the students and immediately joined the scholarship sub-committee. Juree was also instrumental in starting the gardening group which has proved a very popular activity amongst club members. Sue Arnulphy Treasurer Sue has been 11 years in Phuket and a member of the club for 8 of those years. She is British and is retired here with her husband after 30 years in Hong Kong. The club has helped her to get to know people on the island and she has enjoyed being involved with all its activities and especially appreciates having the chance to help. Carol Fryer Carol Fryer came to Phuket 13 years ago, with a background of finance and investments, plus being a qualified accountant. She has been a member of the PIWC for 10 years, and secretary for the last 5 years. She has been actively involved in fund raising events, such as the annual Gala Balls and sports days. In this current year she chairs the Scholarship committee, involving all aspects of the PIWC –social, fundraising and student scholarships. Carol is helped with the Scholarship by:

Maria Kranker Maria has just recently moved to Phuket . She joined PIWC to meet new people, get to know the island and to support at very good cause. Coming from Denmark, a country with a fantastic educational system, she realizes the great importance of making education available for as many people as possible. She enjoys being able to help providing educational opportunities for children in Phuket through PIWC. Maria is also running a business with her husband on Phuket and spend her spare time being physical active with fitness and exercise. Fran Quinn Fran comes from Ireland. Her 20 year Banking career took her to London, New York, Singapore and Hong Kong, before she and her husband moved to Phuket in 2005 for a change of pace and lifestyle. She decided to get involved in the PIWC when she saw the energy, enthusiasm and commitment shown by the women in the group, and the tangible benefits to children in Phuket that resulted from their efforts. An added bonus has been the large network of friends she has made through the organisation, all of whom have made living in Phuket such a positive experience. Christine Robinson Christine lived and worked in Libya for a total of 26 and a half years on three separate occasions before retiring to Phuket with her partner. In between her time in Libya she spent three years in the U.S.A., three in Zambia and two in Scotland. She takes a keen interest in bridge, tennis and mahjong.
