Phuket International Women's Club appoints new committee

The third Thursday of March each year is always important for the Phuket International Women’s Club because it is when the club has its Annual General Meeting to review the achievements of the previous year and also to begin planning for the year ahead. This year over 30 members came to the meeting on March 17 and over 50 members attended the lunch that followed. Le Meridian Phuket Beach Resort hosted both events and did a wonderful job.

A new committee was elected comprising Lyn Carthew (president), Maggy Wigman (vice-president and head of social events and fundraising), Marianne Zaffaroni (vice-president and secretary),Wipa Tanmanaragul and Jureewan Smulders-Wongprom (scholarships), Sue Arnulphy (treasurer), Dianne Buerger (membership), Carole Dux, Valerie Dobson, Nittaya Darroch, Erna Pieterse, Athena Cant and Marion Tideman (general committee).

The club has a lot to be proud of. Substantial funds were raised last year to enable the club to continue to sponsor students through their education. The club has now provided finances for over 1,000 Thai children, whose families have limited means, to be educated.

This year the members will continue to raise money and have fun at the same time. The next fundraiser, “Treasures and Treats” is to be held at Lady Pie’s premises in Cherng Talay on Saturday April 23 between 11am and 2pm. Circle the date in your calendar! It will be a jumble sale of used quality items and also baked goods.

Any donations to this sale will be greatly appreciated. Used quality clothing and other goods can be dropped off at Lady Pie’s premises from the April 16 onwards, and the baked goods should be dropped off from 9am on April 23. All funds from the sale of these items will go to the scholarship fund. Valerie will be taking calls if anyone has any queries or questions. She can be reached on 084 1892281.

The Phuket International Women’s Club was founded in 1989 by a small group of women to foster friendship. Since then it has morphed into a much bigger entity where members get together to meet other women and also to raise funds for scholarships. The club currently has 125 members from 27 different countries. For enquiries on how to join or our activities please visit our website www.phuketiwc.com/
