Phuket International Women's Club: PIWC
Welcome
Our club is for women in Phuket.
We meet for friendship, for social activities and to raise money for our charity.
It's a non-profit organisation with members from 23 countries.
This year, for the first time, our president is Thai - Khun Wipa Tanmanatragul, who has been nominated as person of the year by the Phuket Gazette for her work with the club.
Our monthly activities include a meet-and-greet for newcomers, a fund-raising lunch at a different venue each time, fund-raising coffee mornings in members' houses and a huge annual fund-raising ball/party.
All of this hard work has two main goals – it's a means to developing our members' network and to raising money to support our scholarships.
PIWC provides funding to bright students who might otherwise be forced to become early school-leavers in danger of ending up in poorly paid employment.
Currently we have 185 students from primary school to university in receipt of scholarships. Since the club was set up 22 years ago 675 students have been helped by our club and as a result many have fulfilled their dreams to become doctors, nurses, accountants, teachers, secretaries, engineers, vets, personal assistants, translators, tour guides and so on.
Several of our students have been the first family member to graduate high school.
Funding to cover the entire duration of each student's study course is deposited once a scholarship is set up.
As a non-profit organisation we welcome donations and bequests.
Our accounts are audited yearly
